SEOUL, May 29 (Yonhap) -- Actors Jun Ji-hyun and Kang Dong-won are set to star together in a new Disney+ series titled "Polaris," which will be released next year, as announced by Disney+ on the 29th.

"Polaris" centers around a renowned diplomat and former South Korean ambassador to the United States, who teams up with a mysterious special agent to uncover the truth behind a significant conspiracy.

Jun Ji-hyun will portray Moon-joo, the ambassador known for her insightful decisions and trusted presence in the international community. She discovers that the assassination she is investigating is tied to a complex political plot involving both North and South Korea.

Kang Dong-won takes on the role of San-ho, a former elite international mercenary with a shrouded past and unknown nationality. This marks Kang’s return to television dramas after 20 years, since his last appearance in the 2004 drama "Magic."

The series' screenplay is written by Jung Seo-kyung, who has worked closely with director Park Chan-wook on acclaimed films such as "Decision to Leave," "The Handmaiden," and "Thirst." Directors Kim Hee-won, known for "The Queen of Tears," "Little Women," and "Vincenzo," and Heo Myung-haeng, who directed "The Outlaws 4," will co-direct the series.
