SEOUL, Jan. 2 (Yonhap) -- The grand prize went to Kim Nam-gil this year for his performance in drama "Through the Darkness" at SBS Drama Awards.

Kim received the accolade at 2022 SBS Drama Awards, which took place at SBS Prism Tour on Dec. 31.

Kim, in his acceptance speech, said, "I did not expect it at all because the drama was aired at the beginning of the year," adding, "I sincerely thank the viewers who have not forgotten about our work and loved it until the end."

Kim continued, "I thank director Park and Writer Sul for writing the scripts so well that original one cannot be remembered and for giving me the chance to think about the basics.'

He also expressed gratitude to the actors who worked with him at the scene.

Kim Nam-gil looked back, saying, "The actors of the drama were best without having to say much," adding, "The reason 'Through The Darkness' was able to be completed is thanks to the actors who played the villains."

He also mentioned, "Looking at them on set, I realized that acting is not about being famous, but should be always humble."

He continued, "I would like to dedicate this award to policemen who work day and night to protect our lives and profilers who put efforts to read the minds of the villains."

Debuted in 1999 through KBS 2TV drama "School," Kim plucked to stardom by acting Bidam, who has both good and bad, in 2009 drama "Queen Seondeok of Silla."

He then appeared in drama "Bad Guy" (2010) and movies "The Pirates" (2014), "Pandora" (2016), "Memoir of a Murderer" (2017), and "Emergency Declaration" (2022).

He won his first grand prize by playing role of a short-tempered priest who was ex-NIS agent in SBS drama "The Fiery Priest" (2019)
