CHANGWON, Nov. 8 (Yonhap) -- Gagok Inheritance Center, gagok educating facility, will hold a performance on Nov. 11 to celebrate the 11th anniversary of gagok’s designated as UNESCO Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity, according to Changwon City, South Gyeongsang Province Monday.
Gagok is Korea’s tradition music adding melody to sijo-si, Korea’s traditional style of poem, to sing to an accompaniment. UNESCO designated it as Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2010.
The special performance “Gagok, Our Beautiful music” (translated) will take place in the performance hall in the center at 7:30 p.m. on the 11th.
Master Cho Sun-ja, the head of Gagok Inheritance Center and her pupils will sing various gagoks such as “Dongjidal” (dubbed) and “Jangjinju” (dubbed) to the Korean traditional performance group “Jungeum”’s (dubbed) accompaniment.
The performance is for free.
