SEOUL, Nov. 5 (Yonhap) -- The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (KOFICE) will hold the "2021 World K-pop Concert" at KINTEX 2 Exhibition in Goyang, just northwest of Seoul in Gyeonggi Province. The concert will start at 7 p.m. on Nov. 14, according to the music industry on Friday.
Although Korea' pop culture market has suffered a heavy blow from the COVID-19 pandemic, ahead of the transition to the "With Corona" scheme, large-scale concerts and performances are slowly being scheduled one by one.
This concert, which is part of the K-Culture Festival program, will be held with 3,000 people.
The "2021 World K-pop Concert" is the first large-scale concert to be held after the government has officially eased social distancing rules.
While the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and KOFICE have initially prepared an offline concert for 2,000 people in consideration of the "With Corona" scheme, after conducting the final discussion on Nov. 4, the size of the event was upscaled to allow 3,000 people as the audience.
According to the current social distancing guidelines, up to 499 people who are fully vaccinated can attend exhibition and convention spaces that are not official performance halls. In order to hold an event with more than 500 people, prior consultation is required with the relevant ministries.
"Previously, offline events with 2,000 people were hosted by local governments in Suncheon, Daegu, and South Jeolla Province, but in terms of government-sponsored events, this will be the first large-scale event since implementing the 'With Corona' scheme," an official of the event explained.
In particular, popular K-pop artists such as NCT Dream, aespa, ITZY, SHINee's Key, Pentagon, Brave Girls, Loco, and Simon Dominic will participate in the concert.
American pop singer Kehlani will also boost the concert's atmosphere through video.
Reservations to the concert are made through Interpark tickets, and it is known that it is virtually free if you pay part of the ticketing fee. An official from the event said that seats will also be prepared for multicultural families and the underprivileged.
From Nov. 13, an event titled "K-Culture Fan Fair" will be held, allowing visitors to meet K-pop groups BAE173, Ciipher, and Purple Kiss in person and enjoy various cultural contents such as Korean food, Hangeul, and Hanbok. The tickets to this event is expected to sell out quickly.
"We plan to organize the concerts and additional events in a safe manner while strictly following social distancing guidelines," an official from the event emphasized.
