Fifty Fifty to recruit new members

SEOUL, Jan. 8 (Yonhap) -- K-pop girl group Fifty Fifty, best known for its global hit song “Cupid,” will recruit new members to continue their team activities, its management said on Monday.

Kina, the sole remaining member of the group, released a statement, saying, "I am preparing to give more time to love, so I hope we can walk together in the future." She added, "I am preparing to show you joy once again through Fifty Fifty's music and work hard in our activities."

In response to questions from Yonhap News asking if there are plans to recruit second-generation members to continue the team, an official from their agency, Attrakt, stated, "Yes, it is possible now that Kina has returned."

Fifty Fifty gained significant popularity last year with "Cupid," which charted for an extended period on the Billboard Hot 100 and even entered the annual Billboard charts. However, the group faced obstacles in their activities when four members filed for an injunction to suspend the effect of their exclusive contracts with Attract.

The contract dispute, just six months after their debut, caused social repercussions beyond the music industry.

The court ruled in favor of Attract. Among the four members, only Kina returned to the agency, participating in events like the Billboard Music Awards (BBMA). In October of last year, Attrakt terminated the exclusive contracts of Sae Na, Sio, and Aran, leaving Kina as the sole member of the group.

Attrakt also filed a lawsuit seeking compensation of 13 billion won (US$10 million) against the three former members for their involvement in the unfair termination of exclusive contracts.

In the new year, Kina, as a member of Fifty Fifty, received the "Discovery of the Year" award at the Seoul Music Awards and the Rookie Award at the Golden Disc Awards.
