SEOUL, Feb. 28 (Yonhap) -- The city of Goyang in Gyeonggi Province will hold a special event by which the participants will be recognized as running a full marathon course according to the number of books they read and write a book report on.

The upcoming Reading Marathon will be held from Mar. 2 to Oct. 31 in commemoration of the “2023 Korea Reading Competition” that will open in forthcoming September.

A page of a book will be converted as running a meter, and a certificate of completion will be issued for those who read 42.195 kilometers worth of pages within the designated period.

This virtual marathon course is set to run past 5 local attractions, including KINTEX, Seo Oreung, Haengjusanseong Fortress, Janghang Wetland, and Ilsan Lake Park.

Any Korean citizen can participate in this upcoming special marathon race. Anyone who submits the titles and authors of the books they read along with the number of pages on the bulletin board of the Korean Reading Competition website (korearf.kpipa.or.kr) will be receiving a marathon certificate of competition on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Mayor Lee Dong-hwan said, “As participants read even a page every day and record them, they will naturally get to have a reading habit and feel a sense of accomplishment,” asking for continued attention to the festival.
