SEOUL, Jan. 18 (Yonhap) – “The concept I am going to show you is “SMILEY HERO.” It is my responsibility to make people around the world smile with my positive and bright energy.”
Choi Ye-na, who performed as an "all-round character" of a K-pop girl group IZ*ONE, announced her new start as a solo female artist in the New Year of 2022.
Choi Ye-na explained at a showcase, which was held online for the release of her first mini album “SMiLEY,” on Jan. 17 afternoon, “It is an album where you can listen to diverse genres, such as hip-hop, pop, rock, acoustic, R&B, and dance,” adding, “The album contains Ye-na itself as you can enjoy vocals as well as rap.”
The singer made herself known as she performed as an ice breaker with her energetic charms and humor in IZ*ONE, which was formed through the program “Produce 48.” Choi’s bright energy is also reflected in this mini album, which announced her first start as a solo artist.
Choi Ye-na showed off her strong friendship, saying, "In fact, I was so happy and felt loved when (IZ*ONE) members cheered for me in a group chat, 'Congratulations on your debut, Ye-na.’”
The title song "SMILEY" is an uptempo dance-pop genre that emphasizes intense drum sound and drive rhythm guitar. It contains Choi Ye-na's bold ambition to just laugh off when people criticize or point fingers at her for rumors.
In the music video, the singer turns into a hero who spreads laughter and bright energy.
Moreover, a total of 5 songs, such as “Before Anyone Else,” where Choi Ye-na participated in both composing and writing lyrics to reveal her true feelings, “LxxK 2 U,” which shows an exciting sound of a rock band, and a rhythmical dance song “PRETTY BOYS,” are included in the mini album.
