SEOUL, Aug. 24 (Yonhap) -- Toronto Blue Jays' ace Ryu Hyun-jin, who won his twelfth win of the season with perfect seven shutout innings against the Detroit Tigers on Aug. 22 (local time) and pulled into a tie for the American League (AL) lead in victories.

The left-hander will play as the starter against the Chicago White Sox on Aug. 27, announced the Blue Jays on Tuesday.

The game will begin at 4:07 a.m. on Aug. 27 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, home to the Toronto Blue Jays.

As of Sunday, Ryu is tied for first place in the AL with Garrett Cole of the New York Yankees and Chris Bassitt of the Oakland Athletics.

Considering Bassitt's recent right cheek fracture that required surgery, Ryu is expected to compete fiercely with Cole for most victories in the AL.

Ryu, who has struggled to regain control of his changeup for some time now, seems to have recently overcome his command issues.

The South Korean ace will stand on the mound with great responsibility for the team's victory, as the Blue Jays are working hard to gain the second AL Wild Card spot, which will qualify the team to play for the postseason. The Blue Jays are currently fifth in the AL Wild Card Standings, following up the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox.

Ryu allowed three runs in six innings during the game against the Chicago White Sox on June 11, making this chance to avenge himself on the team's home ground.

Since entering the major league after ruling over the Korean professional baseball league, Ryu has won 14 games in total, the most individual wins in three seasons, 2013-2014 and 2019, when the ace was signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers. With more than a month left in the Major League this season, Ryu is likely to achieve his best record for the most wins in nine years since his debut.
