SEOUL, Mar. 28 (Yonhap) -- Seong-min played by Yang Heung-ju, who decides to go on the path of a monk, heads to Taewoongsa Temple with his friend Jin-woo played by Na Hyun-joon.
However due to his old age, him becoming a Buddhist monk has been refused, and the two friends drink makgeolli with pork belly at a restaurant near the temple. The next day, he head to a temple in Gangwon Province and tries to be a monk again, but this time, the fact that he has just end the relationship with his family hinders him.
Can Seong-min, who has been repeatedly refused to be a monk in front of the toran, leave the world as if he wanted.
The movie “I Leave Home” depicts the journey of the two friends in the form of a road movie.
Seong-min wish to go on a path of a monk because of his life’s worries, but his friend and fellow traveler Jin-woo has been temporarily left home due to his film production problems that have not been going well for a long time.
The two friends are alike in the way that they have unresolved worries. This is why the two in the movie are on the same road.
The movie is close to a Buddhist film in terms of the theme of “becoming a Buddhist monk.” However, rather than emphasizing religious colors, the two friends’ journey was pleasantly unraveled in the form of comic drama.
This movie is said to be based on the true story that producer Park Joon-ho experienced while accompanying his hometown friend who was on his way to become a monk.
Director Kim Sung-hwan, who has delivered the voice of neighbors suffering through the documentary "Wolsong, The Vanishing Village" (2019), has directed the film, adding naturalness to the development of the film. The location is around a thousand-year-old temple in South Gyeongsang Province and Gangwon Province, so the scenery in the work is beautiful.
Actor Yang Heung-ju, who plays Seong-min, has appeared in "The Apartment with Two Women" (2022), "Moving On" (2019), and "Autumn, Autumn" (2016). He also showed his tenacity to shave his head for this work.
The movie is the opening film of the second “One World One Flower International Buddhist Film Festival.” It was first introduced through the 47th Seoul Independent Film Festival and the 25th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival.
It is to be released on April 5.
