SEOUL, June 28 (Yonhap) -- K-pop girl group 2NE1 has raised fans' hopes for a new project after meeting with YG's chief producer Yang Hyun-suk for the first time in eight years. This year marks the quartet's 15th debut anniversary.

YG Entertainment announced on the 28th that members CL, Sandara Park, Park Bom, and Gong Minzy met with Yang Hyun-suk at YG’s new headquarters in Mapo-gu, Hapjeong-dong, Seoul, on the afternoon of the 27th. This reunion marks the first time in eight years that all four members have met with the YG chief producer together.

YG stated, "Chief Producer Yang warmly welcomed each of the 2NE1 members. The meeting, which lasted for about two hours, involved very meaningful and deep conversations."

2NE1 debuted in 2009 and produced numerous hit songs such as "Fire," "I Don't Care," and "UGLY." Known for their flamboyant performances, confident demeanor, and outstanding live singing abilities, they were a flagship girl group of the second generation of K-pop. The group announced their disbandment in November 2016 and released their final song, "GOOD BYE," in January 2017.

In April 2022, 2NE1 surprised fans by reuniting for a performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in the United States, marking their first full-stage appearance in about seven years.

This recent meeting is particularly noteworthy as it was an official visit to YG’s new headquarters rather than a casual gathering, further intensifying fan interest. YG commented, "Given that the members visited Chief Producer Yang to commemorate their 15th anniversary, the likelihood of a new 2NE1 project is very high."

However, YG cautioned, "Since it was the first conversation between Chief Producer Yang and the 2NE1 members in eight years, no specific plans have been formulated yet. Yang, who has a special affection for 2NE1, listened to the members’ requests and empathized with them, raising expectations that good news will soon be shared with fans."
