South Korean supergroup BTS has been nominated in multiple categories of the 2023 Grammy Awards, becoming the first K-pop act to receive a Grammy nomination for three consecutive years.

The septet was nominated for the best pop duo or group performance for "My Universe," along with British rock band Coldplay, and best music video for "Yet to Come," during the official Grammy nomination ceremony livestreamed by the U.S. Recording Academy on Tuesday (U.S. time).

But the total number of nods the band got this time can increase to three if the nomination of "Music of the Spheres," the ninth studio album by the British band, for the album of the year is counted. The album includes "My Universe," the band's collaborative single with BTS.

The multiple nominations came as a surprise, considering BTS did no special musical activities as a group this year except for dropping the anthology album, unlike the past two years when its English-language songs "Dynamite" and "Butter" hit the global music markets.

BTS tweeted its gratitude for the nominations.

"We're honored and grateful that 'My Universe,' the song we participated in, was nominated for a Grammy, along with 'Yet to Come,'" the band said on its official Twitter page.

South Korean idol groups BLACKPINK and Seventeen have received two awards each at this year's MTV Europe Music Awards, their agencies said Monday.

Girl group BLACKPINK was named Best Metaverse Performance for its virtual in-game concert, "The Virtual," held in August, and its member Lisa won Best K-pop during the annual awards ceremony held in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Boy group Seventeen took home trophies for Best New and Best Push.

Best New was included among the awards' major categories in 1994 to honor noteworthy acts while Best Push is granted to those who gave the best performance among the acts chosen for the MTV Push Campaign, the channel's program for introducing talented singers, over the past one year.

"It was a project that we had prepared with so much fun. We are always grateful for the support from Blink, who made us earn this valuable prize," BLACKPINK said in a video message released through its agency, YG Entertainment, referring to the name of its global fandom. The band is currently on a world tour.

Boy group BTS bagged Biggest Fans for the fifth consecutive time while Tomorrow X Together, a boy group also managed by BTS' agency, received Best Asia Act.

Stray Kids' latest album "Maxident" has sold a cumulative 3 million copies, setting the best record for the band and all K-pop acts managed by JYP Entertainment, the agency said Thursday.

The EP released on Oct. 7 hit the milestone exactly after a month, JYP said quoting data from Circle Chart, a local album sales tracker.

This made Stray Kids the second K-pop act to surpass 3 million copies in sales of an album, following BTS.

Debuting in 2018, Stray Kids have been known for their intense stage performances and unique music style.

Last month, the eight-piece group scored their second No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart in their career with the EP. The group first entered the chart in March with the previous EP "Oddinary."

"The Astronaut," the solo debut single by K-pop group BTS' Jin, has sold over 1 million copies, the band's agency said Friday.

Big Hit Music said, citing data from Circle Chart, the album has sold 1,024,382 copies since it was released Oct. 28.

Jin's deeply sentimental voice accompanied by a calming sound of acoustic guitar and gradual build-up of synth sounds creates the mysterious and dreamy mood of the song.

Co-written by British rock band Coldplay, the song debuted at No. 51 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart.

In South Korea, it rose to the top of the weekly albums charts of Hanteo Chart and Circle Chart.

After wrapping up promotional activities for "The Astronaut," the 29-year-old vocalist is set to be the first BTS member to enlist in the mandatory military service.
