SEOUL, Apr. 24 (Yonhap) -- South Korean actor Lee Je-hoon has been confirmed to star in the forthcoming police procedural series “Chief Inspector 1963,” a prequel to the iconic crime investigation series “Chief Inspector.”
In the series, the 38-year-old will suit up as the main lead, and he will begin shooting in the second half of this year, Munhwa Broadcasting Center confirmed Monday.
Going back a decade from when the veteran actor Choi Bool-am’s “Chief Inspector” was set, “Chief Inspector 1963” will be set in the 1960s and will follow the story of the young Park Young-han before he was named the chief inspector.
The original “Chief Inspector” had a total of 880 episodes aired between 1971 and 1989, and since then has been widely reckoned the pioneer of the Korean crime and detective series by scoring far beyond the viewing rate of 70 percent.
Lee, who has credits in a slew of hit television series, including tvN’s iconic police procedural series “Signal” and MBC’s recently wrapped-up crime series “Taxi Driver,” has been slated to star as the young Park Young-han, who eventually grows up to become the chief of an inspection team.
Director Kim Sung-hoon, who has credits for previously producing the action-comedy film “Confidential Assignment” and the apocalyptic thriller film “Rampant,” will take the helm of this forthcoming series based on the script written by the budding screenwriter Kim Young-shin.
