SEOUL, Mar. 13 (Yonhap) -- South Korean celebrities’ fashion featured in Netflix’s smash-hit original series “The Glory” and tvN’s sensational rom-com “Crash Course in Romance” have recently gone viral, having repercussion effects on the fashion industry.

Korean-made leading online shopping malls Gmarket and SSG.com both confirmed that they witnessed a surge in sales of tweed jackets that the role of Park Yeon-jin (Lim Ji-yeon) wore in “The Glory” as well as flower-pattered blouses worn by the main protagonist of “Crash Course in Romance,” Nam Haeng-seon (Jeon Do-yeon).

Park Yeon-jin, who once was one of the worst school bullies, appears as a daughter from an affluent family who also works as a weather caster. Lim, who played Park Yeon-jin, wears several bright-colored set-up suits and tweed jackets throughout the series.

According to SSG.com, sales of tweed jackets from Feb. 8 to Mar. 9 increased by 25 percent, compared to the sales recorded in the same period last year.

An official from Gmarket commented, “As the weather is getting warmer these days, demand for spring fashion is on its rise. Moreover, with the long-awaited second part of ‘The Glory’ unveiled last Friday, fashion of the lead roles is being reflected on the consumption trend as an example of media consumption effect.”

Nam Haeng-seon’s fashion sense from tvN’s recently wrapped up rom-com “Crash Course in Romance,” which earned domestic and international attention, has also gone viral. In the television series, Nam is portrayed as a brave and warm-hearted owner of a side dish store, who shows off her lovely charm by wearing flower-patterned blouses, knitwear with frills, and padded coats with dot patterns.

Per sales data released by Gmarket, retro fashion sales such as lace and frill blouses (67%), chiffon blouses (62%), and blouses with patterns (92%) all witnessed a surge.

In the meantime, sales of blouses with patterns and prints (20%), jeans (15%), and lace and frill blouses (10%) also increased significantly at the online shopping mall run by SSG over the same period.
