SEOUL, June 23 (Yonhap) -- Director Lee Won-seok’s latest comedy film “Killing Romance” will mark the opening ceremony of this year’s New York Asian Film Festival.

“Killing Romance” will celebrate the opening of the 22nd New York Asian Film Festival, which is scheduled to be held next month, according to the film industry Friday. The movie will be screened at New York’s Lincoln Center on July 14 (U.S. time).

Director Lee will attend the opening ceremony with actor Lee Sun-kyun, who starred in the movie as the male lead.

As Director Lee’s first work in about a decade, this fantasy comedy film revolves around three characters: A retired actress Yeo-rae (Lee Ha-nee), who eventually marries an island chaebol Jonathan Na (Lee Sun-kyun) and meets a long-time test taker Beom-woo (Gong Myung).

Although the film had gathered only up to 170,000 moviegoers, it had gone viral among the younger generation.

This annual film festival has been introducing long and short films produced in Asian countries, including South Korea, Hong Kong, China and Japan, to North American audiences. For the past several years, Korean works have been exceptionally standing out.

During the last year’s fest, actor Ryu Seung-ryong took home the Best from The East Award for his role in “Perhaps Love.” Director Choi Dong-hoon’s time-traveling sci-fi adventure “Alienoid” was screened as the fest’s closing film.
