SEOUL, Mar. 15 (Yonhap) -- South Korean director Shin Chang-suk, who is well known for previously delivering the 2021 mega-hit daily drama series “Young Lady and Gentleman,” will return to the small screens with a brand-new daily television series “Woman in a Veil.”

“This will be my last work before retirement,” the director said during the press conference of KBS 2TV’s new daily drama series “Woman in a Veil” held at Seoul’s D-Cube City on Tuesday. “I poured my heart into this work to repay what KBS has given me.”

“Woman in a Veil” will follow the story of a woman who is diagnosed with locked-in syndrome and loses her vision as a result of her husband and his mistress. As she gets entangled with an heiress who has everything, she attempts to reveal the truth and execute revenge as she also finds love and justice along the way.

Director Shin said with confidence, “We had to get rid of some exciting scenes due to the limited broadcast time, but I may dare say that we will be going up against Netflix’s ‘The Glory.’”

He then emphasized, “We made some improvements in our background music and art, and I gave directions that would maximize our cast’s original colors and potential.”

The three-dimensional female protagonists, including Choi Yoon-young, Lee Chae-young, and Shin Go-Eun, will lead the plot by going back and forth between good and evil.

Choi will play Oh Se-rin, who gives back what she receives: After an unexpected incident, she is geared up to take any evil act without hesitation to take the heart of a man she adores.

During the press conference, the actress said, “I have been acting for more than 13 years now, but I have mainly played the heroine in a tragic story,” adding, “I thought my role would be the same as before, but this time it was very different. So, I did some extra preparation since I have never played such a role before.”

“I do not think Oh Se-rin is a villain, but she just does anything for love. She also is very rich, so I found it very attractive that she can just do anything she wants.”

Actress Lee Chae-young has been slated to appear as Joo Ae-ra, a sneaky woman who tries to become YJ Group’s daughter-in-law, while the fresh series sees Shin Go-Eun as Jung Gye-wool, who gets diagnosed with locked-in syndrome because of her husband and sister-in-law.

This revenge thriller series premiered on Tuesday at 7:50 p.m. (KST).
