SEOUL, Feb. 13 (Yonhap) - A dry expression with no smile and a firm and cold tone. Actress Moon Chae-won has thrown away her existing lovely image in the SBS Friday-Saturday drama " PAYBACK: Money and Power."

Park Joon-kyung, played by her, was once an honest and righteous prosecutor more than anyone else, but she was disillusioned with the prosecution organization after her mother's death and decided to take a cold revenge.

"In order to catch a monster, you have to be a monster," she sometimes tries to be brutally cool-headed and silently endure any hardships or dangers alone. She runs silently to achieve the goal of revenge, burying her sharp feelings inside.

Moon Chae-won, who we met at a cafe in Gangnam-gu, Seoul on Friday ahead of the end of the drama, had a similar atmosphere to Park Joon-kyung. She was not as cold as Park Joon-kyung, but I could feel the inner firmness in the calmness.

Moon Chae-won said she was attracted to Park Joon-kyung, who has a different charm from the female lead character in romantic comedy dramas or films that she has mainly appeared in.

She said, "The script that comes to me is mainly a romantic comedy or a story about having a hard time with love with a man that can't be true, but “PAYBACK: Money and Power” was different from those scripts," adding, "I wanted to express different feeling other than similar ones."

She added, "Park Joon-kyung is a character who I want to resemble but hard to be like. Since it is hard to be like that in reality, I thought it would be fun to do it in my work."

In the drama, Park Joon-kyung looks cold-hearted. She usually wears dark pants and suits, and rarely wears accessories. Of the total 12 episodes, it is hard to find a scene where Park Joon-kyung smiles. This actually disappointed fans.

When asked if it was difficult to show inner workings of the character without expressing emotions, Moon Chae-won said, “It is not difficult to play a calm character itself,” adding “On the contrary, I tend to find it more difficult to act excited to the point where I find it hard to understand.”

“There are not many past narratives of Park Joon-kyung and her mother in the drama,” she said. “I thought it should be fully explained why Park Joon-kyung is trying to revenge her mother so much, so I continued to drag my feelings toward her.” As a result, there are some parts that have become a little heavier,” she explained.

Park Joon-kyung, who wanted to be a righteous prosecutor more than anyone else, makes the wrong choice of fabricating evidence through a deal with senior prosecutor Hwang Ki-seok (Park Hoon). After that, she loses everything, and decides to correct justice with revenge for Hwang Ki-seok. Even if the method is not just, she thinks winning the fight is more important.

Regarding Park Joon-kyung's choice to choose an unjust method for justice, Moon Chae-won said, "There must have been discomfort in the corner of her mind," adding, "So when she is given a chance to become a prosecutor again in the middle of the play, she refuses. She said, "She is a strict person even for herself.

At the end of the drama, Park Joon-kyung's revenge ends successfully through the hands of just young prosecutor Jang Taek-joon. Hwang Ki-seok, who ruled the law arbitrarily, and President Myung, who tried to wield power with money, pay for the crime.

"Revenge must be comfortable for you. We can't kill the family of the man who killed my mother. It's a real monster. In the end, Joonkyung doesn't become a monster to deal with monsters. Some viewers may want a more thrilling ending, but I'm satisfied with the ending where the characters ended their goals in their own way."
