SEOUL, Mar. 6 (Yonhap) -- JTBC’s brand-new weekend television series “Divorce Attorney Shin, starring Cho Seung-woo, has kicked off with an average nationwide rating of 7.3%, according to Nielson Korea Sunday.
The first episode aired at 10:30 p.m. Saturday unveiled Shin Sung-han (Cho Seung-woo), a divorce lawyer who calls himself a “sexy guy” and enjoys singing trot with playful gestures.
Meanwhile, a prominent radio DJ Lee Seo-jin (Han Hye-jin), who shook the industry with her infidelity scandal, visits his office as a client. Shin is then moved by her sincerity that what she only wishes to be granted is custody of her only child, and ends up being in charge of the case and gets involved in a rather challenging fight.
The divorce settlement seemed to run against Lee amid the ongoing distasteful scandal involving a leak of her sex tape; nevertheless, Shin firmly asserts that Lee was also a victim of this scandal and that they were going the route of secondary victimization by snatching her right to gain custody.
Lee, however, eventually gets discouraged and tries to give up on her divorce as her son gets a panic attack. Shin then passionately comforts her, assuring her that he will end both the settlement and trial successfully.
The brand-new television series showcased its first episode with excitement and unraveled the story at a speedy pace. Although the episode featured several of the rather provocative elements such as infidelity and sex tapes, it also meticulously dealt with issues such as paranoia, family violence, and secondary victimization of sex crimes.
Above all, the veteran actors’ exquisite acting skills added zest to this sparkling television series.
Cho, as usual, played the role of a humane and trustworthy lawyer with near perfection, going back and forth between playfulness and coolness. However, there were some reviews pointing out that his character seemed to have some overlaps with the freak lawyer featured in the recently wrapped-up legal television series “One Dollar Lawyer.”
However, what makes this brand-new legal drama different from the previous television series is the 30-year-long friendship between Shin, Jang Hyung-geun (Kim Sung-kyun), and Cho Jung-sik (Jung Moon-sung). The trio showed some real friend vibes with their splendid chemistry and never-ending witty banter.
