SEOUL December 23 (Yonhap) -- “I am from the generation so called ‘16 weeks Generation’ literal translation. Although, movies might have greater impact on its audiences, in my humble opinion the continuous happiness drama series provide greater impact.”

“I would like to deliver happiness to the audience every week,” CEO Jung A-reum of “beyond J” who attracted a lot of spot light after showcasing “Somebody” and “Food For Comfort” through online streaming services NETFLIX and Watcha addressed throughout the interview conducted with Yonhap News Agency on December 22.

“It was fitting for me to work on drama series because I am more of a person who is comfortable with extensive persuasion and extensive story telling” CEO Jung pointed out the unique merit of working on drama series throughout her interview.

Throughout the interview CEO addressed that “we feels happy when the audiences react on certain points that producers expect and envisioned them reacting to and sometimes we as producers feel bit down when the audiences don’t react to the way we expected them to throughout the series.”

During the process of producing and showcasing the Netflix series ‘Somebody,’ which deals with the potential danger of using widely distributed dating application, Jung A-reum addressed “I went through emotional rollercoaster for a while, one day I would feel satisfied with the final product, however I would feel like I might have pushed the limit too far with the series, then I would feel bit relived that there are people who recognize the series.”

“When we planned ‘Food For Comfort’ we wanted this series to be bit more comforting but yet emotional, I was glad that the reviews left by the audiences met the intention I had for the series,” CEO Jung talked about her initial intention behind Watcha’s original series “Food For Comfort” which depicts a story of a husband acted by Han Suk-kyu cooking meals for his terminally ill wife acted by Kim Seo-hyung.

Instead of providing simple one dimensional fun, Jung A-reum wants to create a series where her audiences can think, and discuss the topic being dealt throughout the series. Hence the name “beyond J” beyond Joy, was created.

Continuing on the CEO of “beyond J” addressed “I personally believe Korean standards such as our ambition for better and higher education and more is very interesting subject for productions not restricted to only South korea.”

“Year 2023, will be the year ‘beyond J’ expands into various genres.” adding “We have planned out various series for 2023.” addressed CEO Jung throughout the interview.

From a drama series where broadcasters are the protagonists instead of the football player, to dramas motivated from “Chunhwa” (erotic art) which deals with forbidden love within historical era in Korea, comedy movie about students from College of Agriculture and Fisheries, original Mellow dramas and more.

When asked of her of how she picks her roles, CEO Jung addressed “I think I try to not pick those who fit perfectly to the role.”

CEO continued on by giving the example of the transformation of how actress Kim Seo-hyung from very strong roles to a cancer patient, and addressed “When I casted actors and actresses who raise the question of ‘would they be able to act out such characters,’ it provided me with greater success.”

“beyond J” which signed contract with South Korean actress Jo A-ram from K-pop girl group Gugudan and Shin Ji-seop plans to expand and develop the entertainment side of the business transitioning to a comprehensive entertainment company.

When asked about how “Beyond J” will be in 10 years, CEO Jung A-reum carefully addressed “I want ‘beyond J’ to become like Google or Netflix where number of great talents gather for greater good.”

Moreover, Jung A-reum addressed “As the topic of the series have broadened, and platforms have increased in variations, production scene of the drama have become safe and reliable. Therefore I think there will be greater opportunity within the industry,” adding “I highly encourage those who want to work in a creative field.”
