SEOUL, June 7 (Yonhap) -- The animation adaptation of the popular 1990s novel "Toemarok" has been officially invited to the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, often referred to as the "Cannes of the animation world."
Studio Locus announced on June 7th that "Toemarok" was selected for the Midnight Special category at the 48th edition of the festival, taking place from June 9th to 15th in Annecy, France. This category is known for featuring eerie and thrilling content screened late at night.
The film "Toemarok" will be publicly shown for the first time on June 13th during this event. Based on the original novel, which gained immense popularity in the 1990s through serial publication on the PC communication service HiTel, "Toemarok" depicts the adventures of exorcists battling supernatural entities.
Director Kim Dong-chul helms the 85-minute fantasy animation, which reinterprets the original story for a modern audience while maintaining faithful adherence to the source material.
Hwang Soo-jin, Vice President of Locus, highlighted the thorough discussions with the original author, Lee Woo-hyuk, to ensure the adaptation's authenticity and the implementation of challenging visual elements.
The film aims to blend traditional narrative fidelity with contemporary reinterpretation and cutting-edge visual effects.
