SEOUL, Feb. 23 (Yonhap) – Janggi-myeon, Nam-gu, Pohang City, North Gyeongsang Province and Doam-myeon, Gangjin-gun, South Jeolla Province, two places where Dasan Jeong Yak-yong spent his life of exile, have signed a sisterhood agreement at the Doam-myeon office on Wednesday.
Under the agreement, Pohang City will invite Doam-myeon residents to the upcoming “Pohang Long-Term Exile Culture Festival” in April and strengthen cooperation through academic forums and historical and cultural events.
During his exile from 1801 to 1818, Jeong Yak-yong spent 220 days in Janggi-myeon, Pohang, and 17 years in Gangjin-eup and Doam-myeon.
Kim Dong-jin, head of Doam-myeon, said, “We will closely cooperate so that Dasan Jeong Yak-yong’s exile culture path in the past can lead to modern times and add its meaning.”
Jeong Jong-young, head of Janggi-myeon, stressed, “We will make efforts to ensure that unique and excellent exile cultural heritages lead to development between villages and cities.”
