SEOUL, Sept. 4 (Yonhap) -- K-pop idol singers turned actresses will fill the theaters and small screens this month with a variety of works from independent films to melodrama, comedy films and drama.
According to the movie industry on Saturday, Girl's Day's Bang Min-ah won positive reviews for her stable acting skills in the independent film "Snowball" on Sept. 1, followed by a series of films starring Kara's Han Seung-yeon, Girls' Generation's Im Yoon-ah and Secret's Han Sun-hwa.
In the youth drama film "Snowball," which tells the story of the growth of three 18-year-old friends, Bang plays Kang-i, an ordinary teenage girl with no dreams, and displays a bare face without makeup to transparently convey her character's struggling emotions.
Based on Lim Sol-ah's novel "The Best Life," the movie reflects the confusing and sensitive period of youths, where everything seems to end up in the worst situation despite trying their best. Bang won the Rising Star Award at the New York Asian Film Festival for her performance.
On Sept. 9, Kara's Han Seung-yeon will meet the audience with her first feature film "Show Me the Ghost." Han will play Yeji, who is seeking jobs and a house to rent with her friend Ho-du (Kim Hyun-mok). When the two finally find a house, Ho-du realizes the house is haunted and they struggle to drive the ghost out.
Han naturally melts into her role to the point where the actress mentions she was in sync with Yeji. Han turns Yeji, a grumpy yet warm-hearted girl, into her own character, and holds the center of the movie well while creating a stable chemistry with her co-stars.
In "The Miracle," which will be released on Sept. 15 ahead of the Chuseok holiday, Im Yoon-ah, a member of girl group Girls' Generation, will transfer her fresh and lively charm on screen. Im plays Ra-hee, a pure yet silly character from a rich family who also likes her classmate Joon-kyung (Park Jung-min) from the countryside.
Im, who has showed her charm as an actress in the disaster comedy "Exit" (2019), portrays her character as loveable rather than seeming excessive in the upcoming movie. Although the character is set as a supporter of Joon-kyung, the main character, the fresh and bubbly feelings of meeting someone's first love enriches the movie's tone.
On the following day, the audience will have a chance to meet the romance movie "Street of Movies," starring former Secret member Han Sun-hwa and actor Lee Wan. While the previous three movies revolve around teenagers and people in their twenties, "Street of Movies" is a deep romance between a man and woman who are reunited after being separated from their lovers.
Han plays Sun-hwa, a film location manager who is back to work in Busan with her ex-boyfriend who left to Seoul in order to succeed as a film director. Han maintains a calm mood throughout the movie and leads the audiences to Busan's beautiful attractions
