SEOUL, Aug. 9 (Yonhap) -- The first trial of actor Ha Jung-woo (real name Kim Sung-hoon), who has been charged for illegal use of propofol, will be held this week, according to legal circles Monday.

Ha will be brought to the Seoul Central District Court for violating the law on drug management on the 10th. As it is a formal trial, the actor must attend the court himself.

The actor, accused for illegal use of propofol, a psychotropic drug, from January to September 2019, was summarily indicted with a fine of 10 million KRW. But he was handed over to formal trial based on the court's judgment.

The prosecution can ask the court to issue a summary order only with a written hearing and without a formal trial for relatively light cases. But if the court considers the case inappropriate for a summary order, it can be handed over to trial for a hearing.

"I have been receiving laser treatments for acne scars which can cause pain and requires the use of propofol to put the patient under anesthesia ," explained Ha.
