17th London Korean Film Festival kicks off...'Alienoid' sold out in day

SEOUL, Nov. 9 (Yonhap) -- Korean Cultural Centre UK (KCCUK) announced on Wednesday that opening film of London Korean Film Festival (LKFF) "Alienoid" was sold out in just a day, receiving lots of attention.

KCCUK explained tha movie "Alienoid" by director Choi Dong-hoon was played at the opening of 17th LKFF, and its tickets were sold in just a day.

The opening took place at a 185-seat theater at Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA), which is located near the Trafalgar Square

KCCUK said they screend Director Choi Dong-hoon's "The Thieves" along with the hallyu exhibition at V&A and held a talking event with the audiences.

KCCUK mentioned that it is rare for Korean movie to be screened at V&A, and all seats (300) were sold out.

On Monday at "Special exhibition of Kang Soo-yeon," Kim Dong-ho, former chairman of the Busan International Film Festival executive committee, Kim Hong-joon, director of the Korea Film Archive, and translator Darcy Parquet honored the legacy of actress Kang Soo-yeon.

At the opening ceremony of KCCUK, reporters from local media such as the British daily Guardian, the movie magazine Deadline, and Little White Rise attended and showed interest, and BFI's "Sight and Sound" said that they focused on the screening movies of LKFF and Korean horror films for their Dec. issue of Korean movie special.

KCCUK also said that BBC News' movie program "Talking Movies" will be introducing "Alienoid" and Kang Soo-yeon's works for their Korean movie special.

At this year's LKFF, 44 Korean films will be screened at nine theaters in London, Manchester, and Glasgow in Scotland. The closing film is Director Kim Han-min's "Hansan : Rising Dragon."

Meanwhile, KCCUK canceled reception event which was to happen after the opening ceremony to extend condolences to the victims of Itaewon tragedy in Seoul.
