BANGKOK, Oct. 26 (Yonhap) -- Lisa, a Thai member of K-pop girl group BLACKPINK, will appear in Phuket, Thailand, for next year's New Year's event.
Local media outlets in Thailand, including the Bangkok Post, reported on Monday that Lisa and famous Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli have decided to perform at the New Year countdown in Phuket.
The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has set a budget of 100 million baht (around 3.5 billion won) to invite them, and the two stars will perform on stage for 45 minutes each, according to the local media.
"Lisa was originally set to perform in Phuket and Andrea in Bangkok. However, they both will now perform in Phuket," the Bangkok Post said.
Meanwhile, from Nov. 1, visitors from 46 countries, including South Korea, the U.K., the U.S., China, Singapore, Germany, and Australia, who have completed their vaccinations are allowed to enter Thailand without undergoing self-quarantine.
Thailand's tourism industry, which directly and indirectly accounts for 20 percent of the country's gross domestic product (GDP), was on the verge of termination due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As a result, the government in Thailand is currently making every effort to revive the country's economy.
According to Thailand's English daily newspaper, The Nation, Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn "hopes the two events will encourage more people to visit Thailand and help revive the tourism."
