SEOUL, June 3 (Yonhap) -- The Korean Film Council (KOFIC) announced on the 3rd that it has selected 33 films, including director Kim Hyun-seok's "I Can Speak," as the 'Youth Recommended Films for 2024'.

Released in 2017, "I Can Speak" tells the story of a septuagenarian named Ok-bun (played by Na Moon-hee), who learns English from a grade 9 civil servant named Min-jae (played by Lee Je-hoon) in order to inform the world about her experience as a "comfort woman" victim of the Japanese military.

Other films included in the list are director Oh Sung-yoon's animated film "Leafie, a Hen into the Wild" (2011), director Yoon Dan-bi's "Moving On" (2019), director Lee Joon-ik's "Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet" (2015), director Yoon Ga-eun's "The World of Us" (2016), and director Lee Jeong-hyang's "The Way Home" (2002).

The selection panel consisted of 32 film experts recommended by seven associations, including the Korean Film Society and the Korean Film Archive, and 25 current teachers from elementary, middle, and high schools affiliated with 16 provincial and metropolitan education offices.

Among the 33 selected films, 13 short films are available for free viewing on the Korean Film Archive's Korean Movie Database (KMDB) website (https://www.kmdb.or.kr/).

Acting Chairman of KOFIC, Kim Dong-hyun, stated, "We hope that students, our country's future, will be inspired and nurture their dreams by watching these films recommended by teachers and filmmakers. We also expect these films to be actively utilized in educational settings."
