JEJU, May 13 (Yonhap) -- All 12 designated beaches on South Korea’s southern resort island of Jeju will open on June 24 and remain open through Sept. 6, extending this year’s summer beach season by six days, provincial officials said on Wednesday.

According to Jeju Province, the beaches will operate for 75 days, with opening hours set from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The province said it unified operating periods for all beaches, which previously varied by location, while extending the closing date from Aug. 31 to reflect growing demand from residents and tourists.

From July 15 to Aug. 15, Samyang and Woljeong beaches will stay open until 8 p.m., while Ihoteu and Hyeopjae beaches, equipped with nighttime lighting, will operate until 9 p.m.

Rental fees for beach amenities, including parasols and wooden platforms, will remain unchanged for a third consecutive year at 20,000 won (US$14) and 30,000 won, respectively.

Hamdeok Beach will again operate a “Pet Beach” zone allowing visitors to enjoy water activities with companion animals.

The province said it will deploy 315 safety personnel this year, up from 288 last year, and conduct joint safety inspections with fire authorities and local governments before the opening.

Jeju aims to attract 1.6 million beachgoers this year, up about 10 percent from last year’s 1.44 million visitors.
