SEOUL, August 9 (Yonhap) -- Protagonist Dong-ha is a depressed and character in despair because he lost the money he saved up for his son’s surgery. Miraculously, he comes across a dead body of a drug cartel member and a bag full of money, so Dong-ha decides to run off with the bag.

Soon after the drug cartel finds out their money is missing, they immediately trace their money. Drug cartel’s second in command known for his tracking skills Gwang-cheol easily located armature runaway Dong-ha.

Model citizen Dong-ha who has not event ran a red light in his life inspires Gwang-cheol with new ways of committing crime gets involved in drug trafficking, and the team leader of narcotic investigation official Joo-hyun keeps his eyes on them.

Throughout the first couple episodes, the way actor Jung Woo portrays Dong-ha’s emotional changes due to snowballing threats draw a viewer’s attention.

South Korean actor Jung Woo acted out the lonesomeness and the weight head of the household holds, and showed anger, despair, anxiety, through his facial expression increasing the immersiveness to the drama.

Protagonist Dong-ha is very different from most of the characters from the other crime thriller movies who are very skilled. Dong-ha stutters and apologizes and bows constantly when he is in danger.

Dong-ha’s wife describes him of being indecisive and coward, but the only reason he ran off with dead cartel member’s money was to save his family.

Protagonist Dong-ha’s wife Eun-joo acted by Yoon Jin-seo is sick and tired of his husband, and his daughter who is going through puberty despise talking to his dad, but the way Dong-ha tries his best to save his family makes viewers sympathize to the protagonist.

Moreover, the drama deals with crimes and a life of a poor man who gets drawn into drug trafficking in a surface level, by using “A Model Family” as a title it creates a paradox.

Throughout “A Model Family” Dong-ha’s family isn’t the only family appearing within the series. Gwang-cheol who gives his all to the cartel thinking the drug cartel is his family, however a real blood related family member takes his place throughout the series, Joo-hyun acted by Park Ji-yeon seeks revenge for the death of a very close team member.

By showing different characters trying their best to save their family the director throws a question of how would one define a family.
