SEOUL, Dec. 7 (Yonhap) -- Director Park Chan-wook's movie "Decision to Leave," the winner of director awar for this year's Cannes Film Festival, was listed on the New York Times' "Best movies of 2022."
NYT's chief film critic, Manohla Dargis, on Wednesday introduced 10 films that she had seen impressively this year and ranked director Park's film at eighth.
"Decision to Leave" is a melod thriller movie depicting the complex emotional changes that a detective investigating a murder case feels towards the victim's wife, who has been identified as a suspect.
Regarding the movie, Dagis said the movieis like a maze, giving thrilling plessure.
Comparing Park's film with director Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece "Vertigo" ,"where a private detective and a heroine involved in a crime appear, she praised the creativity of "Decision to Leave."
Dargis added, "Under the theme of love and betrayal of protagonists, director Park's film has a unique plot twist," interpreting that "Decison to Leave" is Park's response to the movie "Vertigo."
Such review by the leading U.S. newspaper NYT is expected to serve as a factor that raises the interest of local experts ahead of the U.S. Academy Film Awards next year.
Earlier, the Korean Film Council has chosen "Decision to Leave" as an entry in the International Feature Film category of 95th Academy Film Awards, which is to be held early next year.
Prior to Director Bong Joon-ho's movie "Parasite" receiving award at Academy Film Awards as the first Korean movie in 2020, it was selected as NYT's 'Best movies of 2019."
