SEOUL, Sept. 13 (Yonhap) -- BTS member RM, who turned 30 on the 12th, shared an update, saying, "My military service has reached its halfway point."
RM made this announcement via the fan community platform Weverse, reflecting on his time in the military by comparing it to the challenging 3km runs at the Nonsan Training Center, where he said, "Every time I reached the halfway point, I was out of breath. It's humbling."
RM, who enlisted as an active-duty soldier in December last year, is expected to be discharged in June next year. He reassured fans, saying, "I'll return cheerfully when the snow has fallen, the year has changed, the days have warmed, and the cherry blossoms bloom once again. Stay healthy and well. I love you."
In addition to thanking fans for their heartfelt birthday wishes, RM expressed his gratitude, saying, "Even on a day that I often felt insignificant, I'm so thankful for your sincere and thoughtful celebration. You know it’s because of you that I’m holding on, right?"
He also referenced a Buddhist teaching: "Live relying only on yourself as your lamp," and said he often recalls this when feeling unstable or unreasonably angry during his military service in Hwacheon.
RM added, "There are many things I want to say at this moment, but today I think I'll replace them with a few photos on Instagram. There will surely be a more beautiful and cool way to express it, whether it's through RPWP (RM's second solo album) or a documentary. That time and place will come, just not now."
