Xinjiang, an autonomous region in northwestern China, is widely known as the country's biggest cotton producer, accounting for a quarter of its global output in 2019.
Since 2016, evidence began to emerge that the Chinese government was operating internment camps in the region, in which more than a million of Uyghurs and other Muslims were detained and abused.
Despite the sanctions imposed on Chinese officials joined by international community including the U.S, and the EU, Chinese K-pop stars stood behind Xinjiang cotton and rather called to boycott the brands that have pledged to stop using it.
