SEOUL, May 10 (Yonhap) -- Girl group LOONA was officially appointed by the Korean government on the 10th as an overseas ambassador for Korean culture to promote Korean culture to the world this year.

The idol group also participated in the production of promotional videos for "Talk Talk KOREA," an international Korea-related content contest hosted by the Korean Culture and Information Service (KOCIS).

The video will be released on the government body's official YouTube channel on May 20th as well as the KOCIS' Youtube channel on the 25th.

LOONA debuted in August 2018 and their popularity grew rapidly in the U.S. last November with their third mini-album "[12:00] (Midnight)" ranking 112th place on the U.S. "Billboard 200" chart.

The song "Star" became the first K-pop girl group to be ranked in the top 40 of the North American radio charts for nine consecutive weeks.
