Portrait of young King Sejong unveiled

People clad in traditional Korean robes take part in a ceremony in front of the statue of King Sejong the Great at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul on May 9, 2025, to unveil a portrait showing what the king, the fourth monarch of the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), looked like in his young days. The production of the portrait, funded by organizations honoring the king, came ahead of the 628th anniversary on May 15 of the birth of the king, who created the Korean alphabet Hangeul in 1446.
