SEOUL, June 9 (Yonhap) -- K-pop supergroup BTS'
latest song "Butter," which recently swept the global pop market, is
continuing its success in Japan.
"Butter" was played a total of 16,275,126 times over a week between
May 31 to June 6 and sat atop the Oricon weekly streaming rankings.
This is the third week since "Butter" has topped the chart, recording
more than 10 million replays in all three weeks.
Only six songs in Oricon's history have recorded 10 million streams in more
than three weeks, including "Butter" and BTS' megahit,
"Dynamite" (8 weeks).
Released on May 21, Butter earned 16.6 million streams in three days, setting a
new record for debut week streaming and topping the Oricon weekly streaming
rankings.
During the second week of its release, "Butter" set the highest
streaming record (31.13 million times) in Oricon's history, winning the No. 1
spot once again.
Previously, the song topped the Billboard main album chart "Hot 100"
in the U.S., and succeeded in solidifying its place during the second week as
well.
Billboard reported the discussion BTS members had about being ranked No.1 on
"Hot 100" for two consecutive weeks during the "Five Burning
Questions" corner.
Katie Atkinson, one of the writers at Billboard, said, "To debut at No.
1 is a big deal, proving there's massive curiosity around a brand-new song, but
to stay there a second week is even bigger. The release of the "Hotter" remix helped, but it seems like the biggest
indicator of the track's growing interest is the 24% bump in radio airplay."
Butter ranked 14th on the "Pop Airplay Chart" released by Billboard
on Wednesday. From No.26 to No.18, BTS is evidently rising on the chart as
well.
This chart ranks the top 40 songs in the pop genre by accumulating the number
of weekly broadcasts made by 160 major radio stations in the United States, and
is considered one of the indicators of the popularity of the songs.
