Polish president tours Hanwha Aerospace operations for K9 howitzers in S. Korea
SEOUL, Oct. 25 (Yonhap) -- Polish President Andrzej Duda paid a rare visit to Hanwha Aerospace Co.'s manufacturing facility in South Korea on Friday, viewing operations of the Korean defense company that exports the K9 howitzer to Poland, Hanwha Aerospace said.
As part of his ongoing state visit, Duda traveled to a Hanwha Aerospace factory in Changwon on South Korea's southern coast, where he observed key production lines, including those for the K9 self-propelled howitzers.
The Polish president was joined by Hanwha Group Vice Chairman Kim Dong-kwan, the company said, adding the two discussed ways to strengthen defense cooperation between Hanwha and Poland.
Hanwha Aerospace has maintained close ties with Poland since 2014, when it exported 120 K9 chassis to the European country.
In 2022, the company secured a deal, valued at 8.2 trillion won (US$5.9 billion), to supply Poland with 212 K9 howitzers and 218 Chunmoo rocket launchers. This was followed by another contract last year, worth 5.6 trillion won.
