Interior minister inspects anti-drug trafficking efforts at Jeju airport

SEOUL, March 30 (Yonhap) -- Interior Minister Yun Ho-jung inspected anti-smuggling measures at Jeju International Airport on Monday as part of broader efforts to combat illegal drug trafficking, his office said.

The joint inspection, involving local police and customs officials, took place at the airport on the southern resort island of Jeju as Seoul has sought to better tackle illegal drug trafficking.

Yun called on authorities to work together to prevent the island from becoming what he called a "transit point" for drug trafficking, according to his office.

The government has recently focused on cracking down on drug-related crimes after labeling it as one of seven major "abnormalities" the country faces.
