SEOUL, June 15 (Yonhap) -- K-pop megastar BLACKPINK is currently preparing a "project" to mark its fifth debut anniversary in August, according to the group's agency YG Entertainment on Tuesday.

YG Entertainment released a poster on its official blog earlier today to mark the start of its fifth anniversary project. The poster contained the title "4+1 Project" without any other information, stimulating fans' curiosity.

The specific details on BLACKPINK's 5th debut anniversary project will be released sequentially at the event's website (5th.blackpinkofficial.com)

"We planned various types of projects to satisfy the love and expectations of many fans," YG said.

BLACKPINK debuted on August 8, 2016, by releasing the single "SQUARE ONE," which includes "Whistle" and "BOOMBAYAH."

BLACKPINK made a sensation when they first debuted in the K-pop music industry, ranking No.1 on music shows in 14 days, which was the shortest period of time for any K-pop girl group to achieve such records.

Since then, the four-piece act has grown into a global girl group representing K-pop by making a series of hit songs such as "As If It's Your Last," "DDU-DU DDU-DU," "Kill This Love," "How You Like That" and "Lovesick Girls."

In 2019, BLACKPINK became the first K-pop girl group to perform onstage for the "Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival," which is one of the largest music festival in the U.S. The K-pop act expanded its influence by collaborating with top pop artists such as Dua Lipa, Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez and Cardi B.

Released last October, BLACKPINK's first full-length album ranked second on the two major pop charts, the U.S. Billboard and the U.K. Official Charts, the highest ranking for a K-pop girl group to achieve.
