SEOUL, May 26 (Yonhap) -- Pop star Justin
Bieber's "Peaches" topped the latest Melon weekly chart for the first
time in seven years as a foreign song.
"Peaches" topped the weekly chart compiled between May 17 and 23,
according to the local streaming service, Melon on the 26th.
It is the first foreign song to hit No.1 in
seven years since the title track "Let it go" of Disney's animation
"Frozen," which became world-famous in 2014.
It is also the first time that a foreign
song topped the weekly chart since Melon reorganized the chart in July last
year.
During the same week, the ranking of girl
group songs were also noticeable.
OH MY GIRL, who created a craze with its
songs "Nonstop" and "Dolphin" last year, ranked third with its
new song "Dun Dun Dance," which was released on May 10th.
Girl band LABOUM's 2016 song "Fresh
Adventure" ranked ninth due to the fan-led ascent. The song was
re-illuminated when the male vocal group project "MSG Wannabe" from MBC's
entertainment show "Hangout with Yoo" sang a cover of the song.
K-pop rookie girl groups also stood out on
the charts. "Next Level," released by Aespa on the 17th, ranked 10th
while ITZY's "Mafia In the Morning" moved up the chart as No. 12.
Meanwhile, BTS's new English single
"Butter" reached No. 15 on the weekly chart with a cumulative
three-day tally since its release on the 21st.
The song has remained number one on the
hourly Melon "24Hits" chart and the daily chart one day
after its release.
