SEOUL, June 4 (Yonhap) -- The wooden spirit tablets of the former kings and queens of the Joseon Dynasty, which are enshrined in Jeongjeon (the main shine) of Jongmyo Shrine, a Confucian building complex representing the dynasty, are moved in 151 years to another place due to the renovation of the shrine.
The Royal Palaces and Tombs Center of the Cultural Heritage Administration announced on the 4th that it will hold an undisclosed ceremony at 10 a.m. on June 5th to move all the 49 Spirit tablets housed at each room of the shrine to the former Seonwonjeon Hall at Changdeokung Palace.
The spirit tablets at Jeongjeon and its auxiliary shrine Yeongnyeongjeon (the Hall of Eternal Peace) were moved to five buildings in Changdeokgung Palace in January of 1870.
The Jeongjeon began repairs last year as it was confirmed during a safety inspection in 2015 that there were water leakage and some parts of the shrine were damaged.
