2.5 magnitude natural earthquake hits near Kilju in N. Korea's northeast: weather agency

SEOUL, Nov. 2 (Yonhap) -- A 2.5 magnitude earthquake struck near North Korea's northeastern county of Kilju, where a nuclear test site is located, the South Korean weather agency said Saturday, determining that it was a natural quake.

The earthquake occurred at 9:24 p.m., 37 kilometers northwest of Kilju, the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) said. The epicenter was detected at a latitude of 41.28 degrees north and a longitude of 129.21 degrees east at a depth of 17 km.

The KMA said the earthquake was assessed as a natural occurrence.
