'A Quiet Place Part II' topped box office upon its release

SEOUL, June 18 (Yonhap) -- The silent horror movie 'A Quiet Place Part II', which returned after three years, took off to a solid start by topping the box office with its release. 

 

According to the Korea Box Office Information System, the movie sat atop the box office, gathering 53,000 people (accounting for 41.1% of ticket sales) on the first day of its release on Wednesday and 40,000 people (33%) the next day. 

 

While the first movie depicted the struggle of a family surviving an attack by a monster with a developed hearing organ, "A Quiet Place Part II" follows the survival story of a single mother with her three children who search for a new hiding place. 

 

As summer approaches, a series of horror movies series are heating up the theaters in Korea. 

 

"THE HUMMING," which is the sixth movie of the Korean horror series "Whispering Corridors," was released on Thursday and ranked as No.4 on the box office. Actress Kim Seo-hyung, who has recently established her presence within the drama industry, was cast as the leading role in "THE HUMMING."

 

"The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It," which was released on June 3rd, is still ranked in the top 5, reflecting the popularity of horror movies during the summer season.
