SEOUL, August, 22 (Yonhap) -- Conflicting stories of both parties on the controversy of one sided edit of Over The Top content provider Coupang Play’s “Anna” has collided once again.
Regarding the public statement distributed by the legal representative of director Lee Joo-young, Law Firm Siwoo who claimed that Coupang Play has sent their scenere apology to the director Lee, Coupang Play refuted Siwoo’s claim on Monday by stating “The statement published is far from the truth.”
Legal representative of director Lee Joo-young stated previously that under the arbitration of Directors Guild of Korea, representative of Coupang Play has given their sincere apology to director Lee Joo-young during the secretive meeting.
However, official of Coupang Play stated “The meeting held on August 19 did not include any topics related to the editorial rights, instead they focused on solving the misapprehension and sharing hardships they faced.” adding “Therefore accusation that Coupang Play has given out their sincere apology to director Lee Joo-young is inaccurate.”
Coupang Play continued on with their statement by adding “Discussions regarding the editorial problem happened after the legal representative of Lee Joo-young released the statement on August 21.”
However, director Lee Joo-young stated “Throughout the extensive debate general manager of Coupang Play distinctively stated his apology.” adding “Coupang Play’s rebuttal on giving out the apology contradicts the truth. ”
Moreover, representative of director Lee stated “Since the meeting was private, both Coupang Play and director Lee Joo-young had different thoughts regarding whether to go public with the discussion or not.”
Both sides collided on the idea that “Anna” has been shorted from being 8 episodes to 6 without the agreement of director Lee Joo-young.
“Throughout the extensive meeting held on August 19 and August 21, director Lee Joo-young acknowledged that Coupang Play did not edit ‘Anna’ without the consent of director Lee and resolved misapprehension between the two.” stated representative of Coupang Play.
Coupang Play used meeting held in between director Lee Joo-young and the general manager of Coupang Play in early June, where they agreed upon shortening the drama down to 6 episodes while releasing a directorial version which include 8 original episodes, as one of the evidences.
“If director Lee Joo-young acknowledged that shortened version of ‘Anna’ was done under the agreement, public statement connoting that director Lee Joo-young received an sincere apology from the general manager of Coupang Play would not have been published.” adding “Statements being published by Coupang Play are far from being true to what actually happened.” stated legal representative of director Lee Joo-young.
