SEOUL, Dec. 18 (Yonhap) -- Exhibitions of foreign great artists’ artworks will take place at art galleries in the end of the year.
Works of artists who have made a mark in art history such as Henri Matisse, Salvador Dalí, René Magritte, Wassily Kandinsky and Roy Lichtenstein will meet the Korean audiences.
“Life & Joy” showing French artist Henri Matisse’s drawings and prints will be held at Hangaram Arts Center Museum from December 21st to April 10th 2022.
About 200 drawings, prints, illustrations and artbooks will be on display. Also, original version of “JAZZ” made through cutting papers while Matisse was struggling against cancer.
The Hangaram Art Museum also hosts exhibitions of artists representing Surrealism, an avant-garde art movement that emerged after World War I.
The 'Masters of Surrealism' exhibition presents the works of the Boimans van Vöningen Museum in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, known for having the largest collection of Surrealist works in Europe.
About 180 works by André Breton, Salvador Dali, René Magritte, Man Ray and Marcel Duchamp will be on display until March 6th next year.
The exhibition, composed of works by the Spanish surrealist master Salvador Dali, has opened at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) Design Exhibition Hall.
A total of 140 pieces including oil paintings, illustrations, installation works, videos, and photos are on display. The unique works of the eccentric genius painter will be introduced until March 20 next year.
The special exhibition 'Kandinsky, Malevich & Russian Avant-garde: The Art of Revolution' will be held at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts from the 31st to April 17th next year.
You can see 75 innovative works of 49 avant-garde artists, including Malevich, who founded "Supermatism," which left only very simple geometric shapes.
There is also an exhibition of pop art masters as well.
The “Roy Liechtenstein Exhibition: The Scent of Tears,” which opened at the Seoul Forest Art Center in Seongdong-gu, consists of 130 works by Roy Liechtenstein, who is famous for “Happy Tears.”
Liechtenstein's works that look like cartoons with their thick black outlines, bold colors, and speech balloons with onomatopoeia, will be on display until April 3 next year.
Another pop art master Andy Warhol's self-portrait work is on display at Espas Louis Vuitton Seoul, Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu. You can meet Andy Warhol, who has expressed himself in various ways since his first self-portrait in 1963. The exhibition will be until February 6 next year.
The Page Gallery, Seongsu-dong, Seongdong-gu sheds light on the early works of Andy Warhol as an illustrator. About 30 small items such as drawings, prints, and illustrations are on display. Until January 28 next year.
