BTS wins 10 trophies at Japan Gold Disc Awards…breaks record of foreign artist

SEOUL, Mar. 14 (Yonhap) – K-pop superband BTS has won 10 awards at Japan Gold Disc Awards, showing off the significant influence of K-pop once again.

BTS bagged a total of 10 trophies in 9 categories, including “Best Asian Artist,” according to the list of winners of the “36th Japan Gold Disc Awards,” which was released by Recording Industry Association of Japan on Mar. 14.

BTS set the record of winning the most prizes among foreign artists by taking home 8 trophies at the awards ceremony last year. The group broke its own record by winning 10 awards this year.

In particular, the septet won the trophy in the “Best Asian Artist” category for 4 consecutive years.

The group also earned the awards in “Album of the Year” and “Best 3 Albums(Asia)” with the album “BTS, THE BEST,” which was released in Japan in June, 2021.

Moreover, BTS has been awarded with 4 categories, such as “Song of the Year by Download(Asia),” “Best 5 Songs by Download,” “Song of the Year by Streaming(Asia),” and “Best 5 Songs by Streaming,” with the smash hit song “Butter.”

“Permission to Dance,” which was dropped in July, 2021, was also nominated in “Best 5 Songs by Streaming,” presenting 2 trophies to the group in this category.

BTS and the band Coldplay’s joint song “My Universe” won the award in the category of “Song of the Year by Download(Western).”

The DVD of the online concert “BTS MAP OF THE SOUL ON:E,” which was held in October, 2020, has been awarded with “Music Video of the Year(Asia).”

BTS said, “We were able to win this honorable award thanks to “ARMY”(BTS’ fan club name), who always gives us a lot of support,” adding, “Thank you so much. We will always try our best to make you warm with our good music.”

K-pop idol groups that have drawn attention as leading “4th generation idol groups” also set the record.

TOMORROW X TOGETHER, which belongs to BTS’ agency Big Hit Music, won the “Best 3 Albums” award with the first mini album “Chaotic Wonderland,” which was released in November, 2021.

The group succeeded in winning the award for 2 consecutive years, following the “New Artist of the Year” and “Best 3 New Artists” awards last year.

ENHYPEN was nominated in 2 categories, such as “New Artist of the Year” and “Best 3 New Artists,” winning the group’s first award at Japan Gold Disc Awards.

TREASURE and ITZY also won the “Best 3 New Artists(Asia)” award.
