SEOUL, April 9 (Yonhap) -- When asked if there was something she wanted to tell viewers who had not yet seen the series 'Parasyte: The Grey: The Gray' (hereinafter 'Parasyte: The Grey'), actress Jeon So-nee replied without hesitation, "Isn't it about time you watched it now? (Laughs)"

Bright and confident, the actress emphasized during an interview held at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-Koo, Seoul on the 9th, that she portrayed a character that had no resemblance to herself.

Released on the 5th, 'Parasyte: The Grey' is set in Korea, where parasitic creatures appear seeking to expand their influence by using humans as hosts. Jeon So-nee plays the protagonist, Jung Su-in, who struggles to survive by coexisting with a parasitic creature named Heidi within her body.

Jeon So-nee said, "Before meeting Heidi, Su-in didn't have much enthusiasm for life," and expressed his desire to show how exhausted Su-in was with everything through a brief scene working at a mart.

Having had to take responsibility for herself from a young age, Jung Su-in is accustomed to unforeseen misfortunes. When her mother, who abandoned her, handed her two 10,000-won bills, telling her never to return, or when a deranged customer at the mart wielded a knife, Su-in accepted that misfortune inevitably returns when the time comes.

Stabbed fatally in the back, Su-in returns from the brink of death, thanks to a parasitic creature that enters her body seeking a host. Thus, she becomes a peculiar being, sharing one body while sharing consciousness for a certain period.

Handling a kind of dual role wasn't easy for Jeon So-nee. She mentioned, "It wasn't easy imagining and syncing with an unseen opponent… Until the later stages of filming, I had no idea what Heidi looked like or how she moved, so the more I thought about it during shooting, the more daunting and mysterious it became.”

She added, “Even the action school teachers who experienced many works found it awkward to play Heidi. When I had to act like I was communicating with myself, seeing my green dot-filled face, I imagined there was a wall around me and focused only on what was ahead. (Laughs)"

Confused with half of her head taken by the parasitic creature, Su-in meets Gang Woo (played by Koo Kyo-hwan), a violent organization member who unveils the identity of the parasitic creature. Unable to directly communicate due to one being awake while the other sleeps, Su-in and Heidi start to communicate through Gang Woo.

Jeon So-nee pointed out, "Su-in, who gains a reliable friend in Gang Woo, realizes that this world isn't about struggling alone… The work's message is about reflecting on oneself through others and moving toward the same goal with someone else." She said Su-in seemed to have taken small steps toward growth.

"To develop affection for Su-in, you had to wait until the end of the work. There was no resemblance to Su-in at the beginning of the play, nor did I want to resemble him. I think I acted hoping Su-in would experience a sense of kinship with others and grow."

Debuting in 2014 with the short film “Photo,” Jeon So-nee expanded her acting spectrum by appearing in films such as 'Write or Dance' (2017), ' After My Death' (2018), 'Bad Police' (2019), TV series including 'Encounter' (2018), 'When My Love Blooms' (2020), and ‘Our Blooming Youth’ (2023).

Jeon So-nee said, "If I can live on in someone's memory as a character in a limited world, I would be happy," expressing that such a wish is also why he became an actor.

"I hope to become an actress whom people would think, 'Should I check out that movie/series since she's in it?' and to be a memorable person."
