SEOUL, July 31 (Yonhap) -- The world's largest rock festival “2022 Lollapalooza,” which opened on July 28 (local time) in Chicago, USA, is heating up over the weekend, and the fourth generation of K-Pop, Tomorrow x Together (TXT) stood on the stage on Saturday.

On the third day of the festival, from 7:45 to 8:30 p.m., TXT met with rock enthusiast K-pop fans at on Solana x Perry’s stage, one of eight stages installed in Grant Park, a large urban park in downtown Chicago.

“Lollapalooza was a debut stage for TXT’s American festival,” said an official of Lollapalooza on social media.

Local media reported that TXT started performing with “Thursday's Child” and “Good Boy Gone Bad,” and and later performed “Valley of Lies” with American artist Iann Dior. It also said, “It was a stage full of power.”

Particularly, at the beginning of TXT’s performance, the fans' cheers echoed in the concert hall, creating a warm atmosphere, and when one TXT member said, "Our song may be unfamiliar to fans of Lollapalooza," the fans shouted back, "No,” showing their support.

2022 Lollapalooza is also said to be the American debut stage of J-Hope as a solo singer, the first BTS member to start solo activities, gathering attention from the public.

J-Hope, who recently released his first solo album “Jack In The Box,” will perform at the “Bud Light Stage” at the southernmost part of Grant Park for an hour from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. on July 31, the last day of the festival.

TXT, which had been called the “Brother group of BTS” met with rock mania-K-pop fans from all over the world ahead of J-Hope.

“2022 Lollapalooza is even more special for K-pop fans,” commented Billboard magazine. “It was an exciting time for BTS’ fandom ‘ARMY’ and TXT’s fandom ‘MOA.’”

“J-Hope will be the first Korean artist to appear as a major performer (headliner) on the main stage of a major American music festival,” said Lollapalooza last month as it announced the 2022 lineup.

The 2022 Lollapalooza headliners include J-Hope, the legendary heavy metal band “Metallica,” the popular punk rock group “Green Day,” Dua Lipa, Lil Baby, Machine Gun Kelly, J. Cole, Kygo, Jazmine Sullivan , and Big Sean.

In particular, on the night of July 31, J-Hope and Green Day will be going up the main stages at the southern and northern ends of Grant Park, respectively, to decorate the Finale of Lollapalooza.

“The organizers of Lollapalooza allowed the BTS light stick ‘Army Bomb’ to be brought into the venue,” said J-Hope’s fan group, and predicted that a huge purple wave would unfold at the southern end of Grant Park on the night of July 31.

With the Chicago skyscrapers and Lake Michigan in the background, the 1.3 square kilometer Grant Park is crowded with rock enthusiasts from all over the world.

According to Lollapalooza, 100,000 tickets a day, and a total 400,000 tickets were issued considering Grant Park’s capacity. The ticket for the four-day platinum cost $4,200 (about 5.5 million won). General admission tickets cost $125 (about 160,000 won) for a one-day pass and $350 (about 460,000 won) for a four-day pass.

Lollapalooza began in 1991 with the motto of “Alternative Culture Festival,” and has been performed by many famous musicians including Lady Gaga, Coldplay, and Eminem.

While it was held all over the United States in the beginning, since 2005, it has been held in Chicago every year.
