SEOUL, Apr. 13 (Yonhap) – The main character Se-ra in the movie “Anchor”(directed by Jung Ji-yeon) is a star news anchor who secures the position of the main news, "9 o'clock news.” She is a perfectionist with tenacious and strong personalities. Se-ra receives a call signaling a murder and although her mother also encourages her to break a scoop, she visits the scene to cover the news on her own.

Chun Woo-hee said during a video interview on Apr. 13, “In terms of acting, I’m also pretty persistent and try to make it to the very end,” adding, “I think these aspects resemble Se-ra.”

Chun mentioned that in order to play the role, she not only received education to play an announcer, but she also made efforts to get used to the gesture and habits. She has practiced reporting for a couple of months and watched the news every day with the idea that “Practice is the only answer.”

Since Se-ra is filled with inferiority and anxiety inside her, which is much different from what she seems to be, the actress had to express internal feelings of the character.

Chun analyzed Ser-ra as the “ironic character that seems to be confident outwardly due to her fragile inner side.”

Chun recalled, “It has been a long time since I’ve seen a drama that portrays the psychology of a female from the beginning to end,” adding, “I wanted to make a challenge, wondering whether I can finish shooting.”

In the film, the inner feelings of So-jung(Lee Hye-young), Se-ra’s mother, is also considered very significant.

So-jung had to undergo career interruption as she gave birth to Se-ra and she suffers from depression and alcoholism since then. She thinks her daughter’s success is her own, and Se-ra hates her mother while having pity on her.”

However, Chun said regarding the relationship between mother and daughter, “It’s love after all,” adding, “The relationship was disturbed due to the excessive love between the two, but I think it was pure love.”

“So-jung must have loved her child but feel the anxiety at the same time. Becoming a mother is fearful as much as it is dignified and valuable. Even though it was expressed a bit dramatically, but I think it’s a universal emotion that everyone feels once in their lives.”

Chun emphasized that she tried to make the mother and daughter relationship seem real instead of playing the role with Lee Hye-young, who played So-jung.

The actress said in terms of Shin Ha-kyun, who plays a psychiatrist In-ho, who keeps the mysterious mood of the film, “It is amazing how he is having a good time on the field and suddenly gets immersed in acting when shooting the scene.”

Then, she added, “The greatest charm of the movie ‘Anchor’ is that all three of us keep maintaining the tension on the screen.”

Chun also mentioned, “’Anchor’ is a movie that contains the message of a person overcoming one’s trauma, acknowledging his or her own trauma, and making improvements in the future.”
