23rd JEONJU International Film Festival to hold Lee Chang-dong special screening

JEONJU, March 24 (Yonhap) -- A special screening will be held at the 23rd JEONJU International Film Festival, to take a glimpse into South Korean director Lee Chang-dong’s film life for more than 20 years.


The 23rd JEONJU International Film Festival’s organizing committee announced on Thursday that the “Lee Chang-dong: The Truth of the Invisible” screening will be arranged.

Eight films will be screened in the special screening, including “Green Fish” (1997), “Peppermint Candy” (2000), “Oasis” (2002), “Secret Sunshine” (2007), “Burning” (2018), “Poetry” (2010), and “Heartbeat" (2022).

Lee’s “Heartbeat" (2022), is a new short piece by Lee in 4 years, and it will be screened for the first time at the festival.

Director Alain Mazars’s new documentary "Lee Chang-dong: The Art of Irony," which highlights the world of Lee’s work, will also be screened.

Lee took part in the 4k digital remastering of his works including “Green Fish” (1997) and “Peppermint Candy” (2000).

Programmer Moon Seok, who organized the event said, “It is no exaggeration to say that Korean movies have progressed with Lee’s films,” adding, “The program will be a precious time for film lovers."

The 23rd JEONJU International Film Festival will be held for 10 days from April 28 to May 7, on Cinema street, in Jeonju City.
