SEOUL, Jan. 6 (Yonhap) – S. Korean movie “The Policeman’s Lineage,” the first release of 2022, has started off No.1 in the box office, beating “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”
“Spider-Man: No Way Home,” which broke the record of box office hit in pandemic of “COVID-19” since its release last month, dropped significantly under 100,000 viewers after last weekend, leaving the first place in 3 weeks.
“The Policeman’s Lineage,” which was released on Jan. 5, has gathered 64,000 viewers (sales market share 34.1%) and topped the daily box office, according to Korean Film Council KOBIS on Jan. 6.
The movie is a crime film based on a Japanese novel, which depicts the dangerous pursuit of Park Kang-yoon(Cho Jin-woong), the head of the Kwangsoo Investigation Unit, and Choi Min-jae(Choi Woo-shik), the new undercover police officer who came to monitor him
Spider-Man, which reached its highest box office hit between 2020 and 2021, stepped down to second place, adding 50,000 viewers (29.6%). The movie recorded a cumulative number of 6,251,000 viewers since its release on Dec. 15.
The musical animation “Sing 2,” which was released with “The Policeman’s Lineage,” ranked No.3 with 44,000 viewers (22%).
