BEIJING, Dec. 23 (Yonhap) -- China obligates actors and staff to list their foreign nationality in drama credits.

Foreign actors and staff have to indicate their nationality in subtitles at the beginning or end of a drama, according to the new rule of the Drama Production Regulations, released by the Chinese authorities, on Dec. 22.

Artists from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau are also required to mark the region.

There have been cases where Chinese broadcast networks included the nationalities voluntarily, but now it has become a mandatory guideline.

The new rule seems to create restrictions for foreign and Taiwanese stars to pursue their activities in the country.

The notice seems to be part of China’s crackdown on celebrities.

Hong Kong action star Jet Li, who starred in "Once upon a time in China," Liu Yifei, from Disney’s "Mulan," and Zhang Tielin are known to hold foreign nationalities.
