SEOUL, Jan. 12 (Yonhap) – TvN’s Wednesday-Thursday drama series ‘Poong, the Joseon Psychiatrist,’ which has returned to the small screen with its second season, has kicked off with a viewing rate in the range of 3%, with the love story at its center.

The first episode of the drama was aired at 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday and recorded a viewing rate of 3.7%, falling slightly behind that of the first episode of the first season – 3.5% –, according to data released from Nielson Korea.

The first episode depicted an emotional reunion between Yoo Se-poong, played by Kim Min-jae, and Seo Eun-woo, played by Kim Hyang-gi, who had long missed each other. Seo Eun-woo, who left for Heuksando Island with her father, returns to Kyesu Clinic and reunites with Doctor Yoo.

The couple, however, soon head to the palace in search of the truth of a rumor that was spread in every nook and canny of the palace – the rumor that the ghost of Cho Tae-hak, played by Yoo Seong-ju, with a jade butterfly belt has been wandering around the palace and that anyone who confronts the ghost eventually comes to suffer from vomiting and unknown seizures.

Doctor Yoo and Seo Eun-woo begin to track down the truth of the rumor, igniting the curiosity of viewers.

The second season of “Poong, the Joseon Psychiatrist” captures the character development of the two main protagonists, Yoo and Seo, compared to the previous season: Seo, who had lost her will to live in the first season, began to play as a doctor; Yoo, who used to be an oriental doctor who could not apply acupuncture to his patients due to his trauma, made himself reborn into a genuine psychiatrist.

In the meantime, Gye Ji-han – played by Kim Sang-kyung –, who appeared to be cranky, turned out to be warmhearted, as he was also secretly taking care of slaves.

Alongside these characters who have been leading the story since the previous season, new characters were introduced and drew the viewers’ attention: Princess Lee Seo-yi, played by Yoo Dabi, made an entrance to the story by proudly introducing herself as Doctor Yoo’s first love, along with a secret medical officer Jeon Kang-il, played by Kang Young-seok.
